PASA of CSUEB

Est. 1972

The Pilipinx American Student Association (PASA) engages students at California State University East Bay in activities and programs that aid in enriching educational growth, enhancing Pilipinx cultural awareness, and providing opportunities for community service and leadership development. PASA builds lifelong camaraderie with its members, providing a solid foundation of support and guidance that will help them succeed throughout and after college.

What is Pasalubong?

    PASAlubong is an annual showcase of artists- dancers, singers, and all sorts of amazing talents. We invite local Filipino-American artists to perform and display their talents not only to the students of CSUEB, but also to our local community outside of our campus as well. A portion of PASAlubong's proceeds are always donated to our charity of the year.

Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid is 2KK in short and translates to "To help our fellow brothers and sisters." 2KK is a non profit organization made by the youth for the youth. 2KK creates sustainable communities through the education and empowerment of underprivileged children.

It was formed in 2003 after the landslide tragedy of the Payatas dumpsite by group of teenagers from Metro Manila who decided to do small charitable activities every weekend for the children. This included doing prayer, songs and games that embodied values, which eventually became the values formation sessions called Kapatid.

A few years later, the children expressed how they too, one day would want to go to a University. Together, they brainstormed on how to fundraise for their education, and executing on their ideas. This was the start of the scholarship program called YAPAK (Yaman Ang Pag-Aralin ang Kabataan).

2016 PASALubong

#ZoeMeansLife

    Zoe Inciong was a vivacious teenager who played basketball and water polo at James Logan High School. Along with these two sports, Zoe took on honors and AP classes and maintained a 4.39 GPA. The summer before her sophomore year, Zoe was bothered with pain on her right pelvis. Given that she was doing summer work outs for both sports, she naturally attributed the pain to some type of sports-related injury. After a battery of tests, on September 9, 2011, Zoe was diagnosed with a rare, pediatric bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma. Zoe valiantly faced the diagnosis and displayed utmost grace and courage for the next 10 months of treatment which consisted of 14 rounds of intense chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant followed with 5 weeks of isolation, 6 rounds of radiation therapy, and oral chemotherapy.

    On June 30, 2012, Zoe turned 16. She celebrated with a wonderful party surrounded by family and friends. A few days later, in the most peaceful and graceful fashion, Zoe took her last breath at 12:05am, July 5, 2012, with her parents at her side. Her family and friends saw a glimpse of heaven as she allowed them to spend her last day on earth with her.

    One of Zoe’s wishes before her passing was to help students in similar situations as her. Her family established the Zoe Means Life Scholarship Fund to honor this wish. The fund supports two sets of scholarships for graduating seniors of the New Haven Unified School District. The Zoe Means Life scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate triumph over adversity of medical challenges. The Zoe Inciong Memorial Scholar Athlete scholarships are awarded to student athletes who maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. These scholarships were first awarded in 2013. To date, the fund has awarded a total of $20,000 to 35 recipients. Recipients of these scholarships attend a variety of colleges across the country including Vanderbilt, William Jessup, Columbia, NYU, US Navy, several UC, CSU and local community colleges.
