community & political affairs chair 2020-2021
laenie mateo
I wanted to run as The Community and Political Affairs Chair for this year because of how I had prior experience in high school as the Events Coordinator and one of the founder members. My love and passion for the filipinx community motivates me to become a student leader of this organization. By helping this community and representing this organizations I feel that it makes me the individual I am, and that is why I wanted to run for this position and for CORElakas. Although, running and being in CORE is not easy, it is worth it because being in CORE is not easy, it is worth it because we all have our ups and downs but the positives is that we are a family along with the general members and that is what makes this organization great. I have a lot of PASA memories but the top two would be getting picked up and Friendship Games. One of the best PASA memories I experience would be getting picked up on October 13, 2019 with my partner in crime & Twin Simon Carmona and my beautiful Ate Catherine de Leon. Also, Friendship Games was one of my favorite memories because not only did I get to spend it with my Ate Cat, but also I loved the vibe, and the SPUF and Roll Call practices were so fun.
HELLO EVERYONE! I am Laenie Mateo, my pronouns are she, her, hers, and I am 1/2 of the Community and Political Affairs Chairs. I am a second year biology major in BombSquad. Some facts about me is that I have been doing many types of martial arts for about 10 years, I was born on exactly Friday The 13th, and my favorite music artist right now is SZA.
I just wanted to say that you are all doing so great whatever you are going through during these hard times. We have passed a challenging semester and we are taking on another, I know you got it I BELIEVE IN YALL. To be honest, all of these virtual PASA events would have never happened if it was not for you, our general members, are the reason why our semester was better than expected, so please keep that energy for this new semester because we have a lot in store. So I am so grateful and I have lots of love for you all, I am here if any of you beed someone to talk to or need someone to lean on.
Love, laeknee

I ran for CORE because I wanted to create change. Originally I ran for the E-Board position as treasurer & I had plans on promoting social justice through fundraisers.
After losing that election against an amazing candidate (Ate Nicole), I was offered the Co-Po position with the greatest partner-in-crime.
I accepted position, was. given the most supportive CORE, & the rest became history.
Favorite PASA memory has to be all the late nights studying in the biella room (ifykyk). I miss all the shenanigans that happened in that room.
I am Jose Simon Carmona & 1/2 of the Community and Political Affairs for PASA. My pronouns are he/they, and I’m a second year public health major. I’m in BombSquad and here are some fun fax (no printer) about me. I have a black belt in martial. arts, I used to work as a boba barista, and my party trick is beating boys in videogames.
I want to say i am proud of every single one of you. from participant in our online events, to fundraising for important organizations, and just surviving this pandemic as POC. Corelakas would be absolutely nothing without our members. we still have one more semester and a lot more planned for you guys during spring.
with lots of love & in unity
Jose Simon Carmona
